The Volitan Lionfish is also known as the Common Lionfish, the Red Lionfish, the Turkeyfish, and the Butterfly Cod. The colour of these fish varies depending on the age and maturity. These fish tend to be a red to burgundy colour whilst displaying white and brown to black stripes going vertically along the body.

Due to the Volitan Lionfish growing very rapidly in size, up to 15 inches, these fish will be suited for an aquarium of 120 gallons or more. This fish is suitable for a reef aquarium with caution. The aquarium should also have numerous hiding places as this type of fish likes to hide whilst it adapts to its new home.

Volitan Lionfish should use live saltwater feeder shrimp to encourage it to eat when it has been introduced to the aquarium. The diet should include different foods such as, live fish, live shrimp and sometimes crustacean flesh. Once these fish have completely adapted to their new home the Vilitan Lionfish can change their diet slightly and begin eating foods such as chunk of fresh, uncooked table shrimp, frozen silversides and pieces of frozen squid.
